See How We Repaired this Carpet Transition and Steam Cleaned the Carpet in a Gilroy Home

This week we visited a home in Gilroy, California, where a long-time resident asked for help with two things.
First, the carpet transition between the living room and hallway had started coming apart. It had been like that for a while but recently got worse, catching on socks and the vacuum.
Second, the carpets hadn’t been cleaned in years and needed a deep steam cleaning to bring them back to life. We were able to handle both in one visit, and the results made a big difference.

The Carpet Transition Was Fraying and Pulling Loose
Transitions are one of the first places carpet starts to wear. In this case, the carpet had pulled away from the tile at the hallway entrance. The exposed edge was starting to fray and looked messy. You could also see the old tack strip underneath, which is never something you want showing in a finished space.
We started by carefully removing the old metal transition strip. Then we cleaned up the edge of the carpet by trimming back the frayed fibers and reinforcing the backing with a latex adhesive to keep everything from unraveling further.
The next step was a mild re-stretch. This wasn’t a full wall-to-wall power stretch, but just enough to gently pull the carpet tight so we had a clean edge to work with. The extra tension allowed us to tuck the carpet securely under the new transition strip for a smooth finish.
We installed a fresh metal strip that matched the existing tile and wood tones, secured everything tightly, and made sure there were no raised edges. The repair was clean, low profile, and built to hold up long term.
Steam Cleaning Was Long Overdue for the Living Room Carpet
With the repair complete, we moved on to the carpet cleaning. The living room had seen years of use and had the usual buildup, and there was light spotting near the entry, matted fibers where people walked the most, and a dull tone from dust and oils deep in the pile.
We started with a pre-treatment to break down the embedded grime, then used our truck mounted steam system to flush out the carpet and lift the pile. You could see the difference immediately. The original color came back, the traffic lanes faded, and the whole room felt fresher.
We also used high-speed fans to accelerate dry time so the homeowner could get back to using the space later that day.

This was a simple job in a lot of ways, but the outcome really mattered to the homeowner. They told us they had been putting it off because it felt like a small issue that wasn’t worth calling someone about.
But fixing that one frayed edge and getting the carpet cleaned made the entire living room feel new again. No more catching toes on loose edges. No more visible wear lines or dull fibers. Just a clean, even transition and a bright, comfortable floor.
